The War on Terror Resistance Archives

Oral histories serve as an important tool to discuss real people’s stories and add these perspectives to a specific historical record. These archives document, preserve, and archive stories of grassroots community organizers, activists, and resisters who led, organized, and participated in social movements to resist the War on Terror.

About the Archives

The purpose of the War on Terror Resistance Archives is to document, preserve, and archive stories of grassroots community organizers, activists, and resisters who led, organized, and participated in social movements to resist the War on Terror. These are shared for educational purposes to inform, educate, and to catalyze organizing efforts within Muslim communities and also the broader population, as well as share the history and organizing against the repression of the War on Terror as told by community organizers themselves.

For summer 2021, the Core of Muslim Abolitionists Futures are working in collaboration with Dr. Sabrina Alimahomed to conduct a pilot project to gather the oral histories of the core and anchor organizers of the Abolish the War on Terror Convening.

Oral histories serve as an important tool to discuss real people’s stories and add these perspectives to a specific historical record. This method has often been used to disrupt notions that there is only an official account of history, but instead reveals the complexities of everyday people’s lives. It has the potential to center the lived experiences of people who are not officially recorded in history. Telling stories of one’s experiences can also offer perspectives that may have not been heard before and also the feelings and reflections about these historical times or events.

Grassroots Policy Agenda

Abolishing the War on Terror, Building Communities of Care” is a grassroots policy agenda. It is a labor of love, a product of lived expertise, and a model for community care. The agenda is broken into 2 main sections - one calling on abolishing and divesting from harmful state policies and the second building our communities of care.
